Remedy | A drug or procedure that will cure or control a disease. |
Remineralisation | The replacement of calcium in enamel. Calcium is lost in the decay process. |
Removable Appliance | An appliance not attached to teeth and removable from the mouth. |
Replacement crown | A new crown that is made to replace all or part of natural crown of a tooth. |
Resorbtion | The reduction of the size and quantity of bone, or of a root. |
Restoration | The restoring or repairing of teeth with fillings or crowns. A filling. |
Restorative Dentistry | The dental name for the repair and replacement of teeth i.e. fillings, crowns, bridges and dentures. |
Retainer | An orthodontic appliance to hold teeth in their corrected positions after the main treatment. |
Retention | The ability to stay firmly in place, as in the retention of a denture. |
Root | The part of the tooth joined to the crown and normally in bone below the gum. |
Root Canal | This is a tubular passage through which the nerves and blood vessels enter the tooth. It runs from the end of the root up to the pulp chamber in the crown. |
Root Canal Treatment | The removal of diseased nerves and blood vessels of a tooth, and the filling of the root canals with a special material. |
Root Planing | The preparation and cleaning of the roots of teeth that have become exposed by gum disease. It includes the reshaping of the roots. |
